Around 40 years ago my uncle was charged with some sort of crime as a minor. He had it expunged when he turned 18, but apparently for some reason it still appears in some form on a federal background check, and he can't purchase a firearm. I'm not sure what it was he was charged with, but some of my cousins seem to think it was drug-related and a felony.
It used to be safe where he lives and works, but now things are worse there than where my family raised me, among the "food" vans (heavy quotation marks on food) and aids-needle-decorated sidewalks. recently he had his car stolen and totaled by a mexican, and someone broke his door trying to break in, only to settle for his neighbors who naively don't use their locks at all. Is there some way my uncle can deal with his background stuff to legally buy a gun again, or is he just totally screwed? He's my favorite uncle, I'd be pissed if he got killed.
