When you realize that a select extreme few people have massive impact on humanity (for example, most of internet encryption traffic comes from the combined effort of maybe 5 guys, 500 if you include the people who analyzed their work and wrote the original code) and we all benefit immensely.
When automation kicks in we are going to have to figure out a way to weed out the people who are such an extreme detriment and net negative on resources and social cohesion, that's why guys like Bill Gates and Rosicrucians talk about depopulation so much. They're talking about culling the NPCs.
