>>6823849>what's the legal status of these vanilla servers?as best i remember it's legally grey. as long as they've reverse engineered everything instead of using any of blizzard's code and they aren't turning a profit there's a chance that they could make a case for keeping them, but so far none of them have had the money/time to go to court about it when blizzard actually does try to get one shut down. usually blizzard turns a blind eye to them, though, until recently
>they're not run by blizzard right?they're not, but recently blizzard announced that they will introduce vanilla servers summer 2019. of course they got a few of the larger private servers taken down before announcing this
>do you play on them?i've tried a few in the past, but haven't played on any for long
>is it really as fun as people expected it would be?depends what people you're talking about
there's a very small set of extremely hardcore players who do unironically like it for various reasons, including the stuff that's basically just more inconvenient.
the problem is that it's a very vocal minority and while they're fully aware that they only like it more because they like it because of things that are objectively bad (confusing quest text, horribly long grinds, very slow combat), a lot of people who played back then remember liking the game a lot more then than they do now and assume they're part of that minority when in reality they're just remembering the novelty, friends they used to play with, and generally being more excitable 14 years ago
that second set of people will hate classic for the same reasons that the first set will like it. the guy in the video was basically saying a really condensed version of that without addressing the minority that actually likes the game being more inconvenient
