It is explained in TNG that in the future they have the ability to manufacture synthetic meat which mimics the cellular structure of meat you'd get from killing livestock. And humans NEED meat to be apart of our diet, every evolutionary biologist and health nut knows this.
I'm not saying being a vegan makes you a bad person or an idiot, it's just rhetorically poor to promote something that cuts a major part of your diet out. Especially so in a world and in a species where meat has been a common cuisine for millions of years.
