One could make an argument that the ever-increasing budgets for video games has caused studios to Hollywoodize and mostly go with safe bets, reducing creativity. Another problem is that what makes successful games has been more figured out - this leads to less experimentation and fewer breakthroughs. Still though, just due to the sheer volume of stuff available, there is probably more good stuff coming out now than in the past. The ratio isn't as good, but in terms of raw numbers good games are fine. Certain genres are definitely dead or worse though. MMORPGs have become a poor imitation of the legendary games of the past, and I doubt that the genre will ever recover.

A big problem in my opinion is the lack of something huge to gravitate around. The "best" we have is Marvel shitshows and fucking Fortnite. In the 00s there were so many iconic franchises that it is hard to keep track. LOTR, Harry Potter, Pokemon, Halo, SW prequels, Matrix, fucking Shrek. So many more.

In general you could have faith in entertainment's ability to meet expectations. Even 10 years ago it was rare to be deceived into watching (or playing) something unsatisfying. These days entertainment is so mediocre that nobody expects anything. Every ounce of hype must be taken with a grain of salt, that is very sad.

things were hand drawn with care
there were less animators but more of them were true artists with real talent
there was less use of cut and paste computer programs that make animation easier and faster... but perhaps at a cost
