Its an interesting issue, as that's both what's wrong with Russians and right about them at the same time, what keeps us who we are, yet prevents us from advancing further. The only way a person can detach themselves from a collectivist system is an individual sacrifice, that ultimately determines a human being as an individual and contributes to taking down the system as a whole. In Russia this has historically been the central point of most issues - a person is put at a crossroad where one way is stepping over yourself for the collective well-being of others, thus abandoning your core principles, and the other one is holding on to them, while turning a blind eye to the collective misery.
