One is that people are can make hierarchy based on objective and scientific standards ( like how deadly are poisons ect.) . And they try apply that to their subjective opinions to make them look objective ( or they feel as their opinions are based objectively). Secondly it makes people feel good if they feel as though they are better than others. This is why there are so much advertisements that try to make you feel better than others if you buy their product , apple and white nationalists use these tactics a lot.
Thirdly we live in a society where power hierarchies are prevalent so people feel comfortable with the familiarity even if the application of it is unjustified.
For people on 4chan it is probably the second one . But if you think about it these three reasons are very connected .
