Dmitri Shostakovich was born in 1906 in Saint-Petersburg, Russian Empire. In the Shostakovichs' house always sounded music. Their guests and the relatives often played different compositions on piano. He started to go in ofr a music when he got into grammar school. His first symphony was a diploma thesis. Dmitri sent it to the music contest and one of te judges very liked it. Judge asked for playing for him that symphony. After succes Dmiti played his First symphony in Berlin. He died in 1975 by cancer. Dmitri Shostakovich is one of the greates composers of 20th century.
