The writer of this song is Maynard James Keenan, and his mother was Judith Marie. When James was 11 years old, his mother had a cerebral palsy aneurysm. She was paralyzed over much of her body, and suffered great pain. Yet, she remained a devout christian.
James, still a young child, wondered why God would do this to his dear, perfect, loving mother. He grew to lose his religious beliefs, became a strong advocate for atheism, yet never questioned his mothers faith.
When she died 23 years later, in 2003, it had been 10,000 days between her death and her aneurysm.
She was always so strong in her faith, and acted as a guiding light for Maynard. She suffered so much, yet gave nothing but love.
The two songs are eulogies to Judith Marie, borne November 22, 1943, and left on June 18, 2003.
