Basically with /bant/ you should look at the dedicated threads that pop up repeatedly. If you like any of the topics, you'll probably like the thread and as a secondary result, /bant/. However, outside of these threads (which are often referred to as "circle jerk" threads) /bant/ is pretty much garbage.
Earlier on it was pretty lively, but it's become just another generic 4chan board these days. It's absolutely full of faggots who are too pretentious for /lgbt/ and/or are actual pedophiles. /bant/ shares the anime obsession of other boards, but it feels forced - likely because it is.
Aside from that you have a smattering nameposters, redditors, pollacks who follow moved threads, and people who click /bant/ because they are scared of blue boards (/int/) or want to look at anime children instead of gore (/b/).
In other words, /bant/ mostly sucks in the way that 4chan as a whole sucks - it's just compounded by a lack of overarching identity.
