>>7259965I do sew, actually! Got started a few months ago. I still suck at it, but I'll keep practicing. Do you sew?
>>7259946It's on hiatus until I'm out of ideas. Scarves are like filler seasons to me. I tend to pick them up when I've got nothing else to work on. Sometimes it'll take forever before I actually finish one as a result.
It's actually not that special of a story how I got started knitting. I grew up around a lot of people who knit, but I was never really interested in it until one day in my last year of college when I noticed an old lady at the public library who was knitting some sort of hat. She looked really peaceful so I wanted to be like that too. I watched a bunch of youtube tutorials, found a recipe I wanted to make, bought the knitting needles and yarn I needed and just sat down and tried figuring things out. I messed up a lot, and had to start over a bunch of times, but it was a surprisingly serene time. Before I knew it, it had been an entire day and I had been so absorbed in learning how to do this seemingly mundane craft, I felt peaceful for the first time in a long time. I think people call it flow or something.
I eventually contacted a friend of my grandma, who had been a professional knitter back in the day, and spent a christmas season visiting her every day and having her teach me as much as I could. I'm still not that good at it though. Most old ladies can kick my ass at knitting, lol.
