>>7299260Well, I have hearing aid that I take off during the night so battery recharges - so no nightly sounds (or any sounds at all) wakes me up, and I can turn it off during post-lunch nap so people at work don't wake me up when I'm on hour-long break trying to sleep after eating lunch with their devices that have FUCKING LOUD notifications, or the radios that you can hear from 30ft away.
But a lot of jobs/fields are permanently closed off to me - military being at the top of the list - because of disability
Can't get hearing aid wet or it's destroyed, so no swimming or showers with it on, and rain can be your nemesis
Also, you get to be dependent on civilization because eking it out alone in the wild is damn difficult due to zero hearing so no warning about predators unless you see them coming
EMP is worst-case scenario since it would also fry the cochlear implant in the head, and you'd have to get a new one - means surgery, and you're fucked if you don't have good health insurance.
Also, despite what you might think, we don't hear silence in our head - at least the ones that were lucky enough to get a cochlear implant so they can hear instead of suffering total deafness like I did
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musical_ear_syndromeI don't want the music to go away, ever, because I'd be left with silence in the head and that would be beyond maddening
