Yep, friend of mine moved to the US a while ago, legally. Had nothing much to his name. Got a job working in a library, nothing big. By comparison, the US prices on utilities and food are dirt cheap. So he lived very basic, put aside his cash and bought a Lincoln Town car, second hand. Worked his waking hours doing transport for semi-big wigs. Eventually bought a limo and paid someone else to drive it. Quit his job in the library worked the cars full time. Bought two more limos, eventually the business became self sustaining. Did a short course in plumbing and gets a lot of work. Eventually set up plumbing and plumbing services store with limo business. He is doing VERY well. Money can be made EVERYWHERE. The fact that cost of living is significantly lower in the US than Trinidad is why he succeeded. You just have to be willing to make the sacrifice early and not go overboard because everything is affordable. He recently became a customs broker because he thought it would be cheaper to clear his own materials for the plumbing business. Just need to have a little foresight, starting one business may lead to another when you're trying to cut costs, now he has quite a few clients in the local business community who depend on him to clear their goods from the port.
