>>737872It's actually a very clever design. Just like how you would typically block with the rim of a shield (the strongest part), the rim along the top would be exceedingly good at stopping strikes against the head, because creased steel bands are nearly impenetrable.
Even if someone's blade did nick the band, it would then get stuck, not that the wearer would care given how tall the helmet is (even a strong indent wouldn't reach your skull).
Same goes for the cross part on the face. The weakest part of this helmet (or any helmet really) is along the rivets, but the positioning of the plates is such that only a strong impact directly from the side would crumple the helmet.
