As someone who was actually on /b/ as an 18+ adult at that point in time, I can tell you that a lot of the posters were fapping to traps. You'd get hostile comments like that sometimes, but then again, you'd get comments like that now. It wasn't stopping anyone from fapping to Linetrap and Bridget.
You may also be shocked to discover that 4chan wasn't always infested with teenage wannabe nazis constantly spewing the same two insults repeatedly and trying to 'recruit' other posters for their cringey slacktivist cause. In fact, when signs of that sort of faggotry started showing with the chanology/scientology protest shite, they were basically ousted from 4chan entirely for their troubles.
