Every new person who comes to a small-ish community like this will go through a phase where they observe what people do and how people act. The easiest way to become a part of that is by emulating what others do. Why try something new if you have a clear-cut guide on what to conform to? The divide between what's done ironically and what people do to try to fit in gets super blurry when the community is so small and there's no clear central idea of what it should be about.

After a while you get to a point where thread topics are iterative rather than inventive, and every piece of content within the community is derivative rather than creative. It sucks to admit it, but even the stuff I've made for /bant/ have been just that, based on the work of other people - although I like to believe I've added to it and contributed in my own way.
