Yes,more than a few former KGB agents have written entire books about it, were occasionaly talking about it on TV interviews as recently as the 90s, and there were plenty of arrests and even convictions not only in academia but in hollywood and the government as well. The Red Scare didn't arise out of a vacuum, McCarthyism and the fear of communism undeniable used as a political tool of propoganda and subversion in order to further the agenda of the reublican party and the personal interest of its representatives under the pretext of national defense but it wasn't entirely without basis either, the extensive espionage programs of that period are well documented by both sides. This isn't some out there theory, it's well documented fact.

each state is its own, and that is nice, because americans are very opinionated, and it is preferable to be around people that share your opinion. east coast, new england, etc. is the best of the states, but west coast is nice too. middle of the country, and the south, are embarrassing.
