The Rape of Mako Aoyama

University student Mako was gang raped at her flat after she had deleted Ryoko Misai from Facebook. Ryoko went to her apartment with her alleged boyfriend at the time and another male accomplice. The two men raped Mako for almost two hours while Ryoko recorded it and posted it online to her Facebook account. This image is the only known surviving screenshot of the video.

The Japanese media reported this very aggressively when it first happened, but after Mako fell pregnant and decided to keep the child the media basically dropped the story. The two men, who have never been named, were not charged due to Makos decision to keep the child. As she had lost public sympathy the prosecutors were concerned a guilty verdict was not as simple as they initially thought. Ryoko allegedly settler the matter out of court and also saw no jail time.
