>>7651929Yes, the scenario would have been very probable. Even with the war starting out conventional, the threshhold to use nukes in Germany was pretty low, even though both sides were no official nuclear powers (but had nukes of the respective big brother stationed on their territory).
Huge troop concentration along the border. The war plans of both sides included at least tactical nuke strikes. Europe was packed full of short-range and medium-range ballistic missiles that could reach their target in a very short time. NATO even planned to use nuclear mines to cut off strategic locations (see "Fulda Gap") from advancing tanks. So yeah, USA and SU would have been hit hard by ICBMs and subs, but Europe, especially the part in the middle, would have become the most fucked hellhole of all.
