>>772095There are literally thousands of different faiths out there, and by orthodox definition of most of them, if you pick the wrong one, you will burn in hell for all eternity.
If anything, I choose to believe in universal values instead of God. I believe in the good, in justice, in fairness, in love etc.
By this standard, if I live a good and just live, and God is any of the above, if he happens to exists, he will not send me to hell for the wrong faith I picked, but will judge me on my deeds and be just as just and loving as I was in this life, and return the favor.
This prevents me from hating on gays, looking down on people of other faiths, including people who have no faith at all, and just be kind and just to all the good people out there, and not be so quick to judge them, cause you never know what they've been through and where they came from. I dunno, sounds like the more reasonable approach than just blindly follow a given dogma and stick with it, and hold a grudge on all people who don't share the exact same faith than I do.
In a nutshell, religion is way to exclusive, to agree with my values, that I hold up so highly, so I couldn't call myself religious for that reason alone.
