It is not so much the image, or even the set up of the joke within the image itself, that is creating the comedic tension here; it's the irony of intentionally repeating a joke that is already not likely to be found humorous ad nauseam. Is, perhaps, this meta joke in itself subject to the laws of repetition as well? Only time will tell.
