The churches brainwashed people to convince them that this is their enemy. They needed an enemy so they can portray themselves as saviours but in fact they are the the evil. The pop culture also poisoned the movement's image and the edgy teens adopted it as a symbol of rebellion in a christian society(because of the bad things they are doing to the people) and against the system which is an misinterpretation.
