let me, a brown, desi, indian bitch, tell you all other desi people why exactly i, and many others, find this offensive:
1. the dotbusters. i am sorry for you if you or someone you know have been their victim. they were a jersey based hate group targeting south asians in the 1980-90s. yes. this shit is 20 years old. 20. their name came from the fact that south asian women wore bindis on their forehead.
2. the bindi has been used as a fashion accessory, yes, but only south asian people should use it?? it's literally THAT simple. its not for someone else to use. we all know how racist/colourist koreans are towards people of darker skin tones. we see it in the way kpop idols treat their own members. how can you excuse this knowing that we damn well are darker.
3. the british ruled us for 200 years and completely destroyed our psychology. its difficult to get out of that mindset. to let other people use our culture to feel accepted. brown people think that people of other races look prettier in our own clothes than we do. this is a deep issue. dont let it be passed because it is kpop. y'all say bharat mata ki jai in every sentence yet are willing to let a cultural symbol used lightheartedly because you want acceptance. its okay. learn. unlearn. grow. be proud to be brown.
