The first book you should read in German should be either the Lutherbibel or the Brüder Grimms Kinder- und Hausmärchen.
German is pretty easy to learn in comparison to Greek or Latin. I know this because I took a semester of each in high school and college, and ended up sticking with the easiest one, which was German.
