I know reddit is seen here as a complete joke, but /r/schizophrenia is the best online community for schizophrenia I have found. They have a lot of US based people who know some things. Might want to ask for advice there.

It used to be voices, but thanks to medication I don't hear them anymore.

However I sometimes see animals crawling around my desk or I see some shit moving in the corner of my eyes but when I check nothing's there.

I'm beyond the point of being able to help. He stayed with my wife and I for a couple of months and we helped give him the structure to find a job and a place. On his own, he immediately got himself fired by having a crazy outburst at work, and is only working minimal hours at a new place. Oh, and my wife is pregnant. We've got priorities.

I know depression and suicide are generally considered a meme, but are indeed rampant among the younger demographic. I found weed and shrooms really helpful, in moderation ofc.

Quick answer, yes.

However it does kick my illness into overdrive. I have quit all drugs pretty much. Still like to get drunk though since it doesn't seem to have any effect on my mental illness.

One time back in 2011 I smoked some weed (that was after I was already sick, wanted to see what would happen) and I started to hallucinate pretty vividly and it was fucking scary. I sat in my room like a maniac laughing and crying at the same time.

I understand your position. But I think you could force him into treatment (court ordered), but I don't know how that would work out.

Source: Father was an alcoholic who successfully quit. My aforementioned schizophrenic friend drinks and it clearly, from an outsider's view, makes everything worse.

When a person gets drunk, they can tell they are drunk by comparison. But if you were drunk from birth, how would you know you are drunk or that anything is wrong?

Many schizophrenics don't recognize their is anything wrong. I've known a schizophrenic who claims there is a guiding spirit in their head who has given them advice through the years. And they believe it's real, at least it seems 100% real to them. You might get them to consider the spirit might not be real, but really that's not what he believes internally. He also believed there was a life energy in people's bodies and he could harvest it if he cut your chest open. Something that has zero scientific basis. But if you are like "dude, I think you are schizophrenic", he would say "lol, wut? I'm perfectly normal. What are you talking about?"

You are not 100% out of it all the time. On good days you may be only 10% crazy, on worse days 50%.

You can have lucid phases where you understand that you are sick or that something is wrong.

However no schizophrenic mind is alike. While the symptoms are the same the experiences can vastly differ.

Just like there a highly functioning autists there are drooling retards that smack their own heads to drain out the overstimulation. Same with schizophrenia.
