>>8102257When the US and NASA actually accomplishes something meaningful in space, you can have your bragging rights.
Doing a lunar tour and planting a flag is not meaningful. The hubble space telescope is meaningful. Jumpstarting a space-based economy is meaningful. Colonizing other bodies in the solar system or building orbital habitats is meaningful. Developing planetary communication infrastructure is meaningful.
There are some good meaningful things the US has accomplished, but Americans puff themselves up over very meaningless """achievementes""" like the lunar landings or the space shuttle.
At the rate NASA is going, you'll have a neo-space shuttle accomplishing nothing while China and India are building lunar colonies. Maybe you'll brag about landing a man on the sun as your propaganda media sells you half truths and lies to build nationalistic fervor while in reality achieving nothing noteworthy.
I can tell you right now, with how craptastic NASA is, the future of the "american" space program is entirely in the hands of private corporations. The government is not able to do fuck all but funnel money into Boeing's mouth.
