does anyone at /bant/ distill their water? I'm trying to filter out fluoride along with heavy metals + the chemicals that turn you gay. If you know of any models you recommend then plz share thx

Distilled water is very unhealthy. Filtering is ok but distilling can literally do you in.

This. I had an aunt end up in the ER after drinking only distilled water over a camping trip. Pretty embarrassing to get rushed to the hospital just to be told the equivalent of "drink a powerade".

You need these traces of potassium, sodium and so on because distilled water does not conduct electricity. It fucks up your neural system among other negative effects.

Realistically, you have a pretty good chance of getting what you need elsewhere in your diet as long as your intake is varied (especially if your food's fortified as it often is in 1st world countries), but it adds a method of malnourishment that you wouldn't otherwise have to worry about.

The volume of water you drink is pretty significant compared to the volume of food you eat. You also often take significant amounts at once. All this leaves your body as piss and sweat taking minerals out of it. Not saying one glass will kill you but potential for unwanted side effects is there.

Unless you are stuck on a lifeboat with nothing but water from a solar still are you going to have a serious problem.
If really concerned, take a vitamin tablet to top up the mineral content of your system.
Distilling is the easiest way to remove dissolved chemicals from water. Filtration only removes particles in the water.
There are plenty of counter top distilling units for less than $100 U.S.

I'm even considering one of those pH filters as well to try and drink more alkaline water. I can't see anything else that would be lacking that's essential in spring water. What other things do you suppose could be another problem? I'll look into it if there's something to it

Off the top of my head? Gut flora, immunity. It's highly unnatural for human beings to ingest anything that is sterile. Every now and then would probably have little impact but to take significant amount of what you ingest over months and years and make it bacteria - free? what would be the result?

Alkaline is preety simple - baking soda. I did notice a significant decrerase in general inflammation since I started using baking soda twice a day.

because because of osmosis, it goes into your cells but not out. you need electrolytes to maintain a balance
if you eat while drinking distilled water, that would be fine, because of the salt intake. but if you just chug the distilled water down without eating or consuming any salts, you are getting internal bleeding :3
