According to a very brief scan of a Sophian message board, the Demiurge was accidentally created during some primeval cataclysm involving the Monad (the beginning and mindless or unaware source of all creation) and one of the lesser Aeons (some kind of self aware matter either escaped or ejected from the Monad). Because it is made of the same stuff as the Monad, the Demiurge is driven to create; but because its existence is a mistake, it has no conception or knowledge of the eternal and its creation is limited to the purely physical. So in the Gnostic mythos the Demiurge is "evil" because it seeks to trap us (tiny bits of eternal consciousness) in a realm where we will eventually fall victim to the same eternal entropic death as everything else, instead of either rejoining with the Monad or possibly transcending both physical intransigence and single minded eternity altogether and becoming something else entirely.
So: the Demiurge is "bad" because it's going to die in a singularly permanent way; you should shun it because it wants you to die too; and you can't become one yourself because it's a mistake and you are not.
