It's actually super common and many manufacturers sell re-chambered 1911's.

Not at all. You see the 1911 platform is very comfortable and the extra meat helps with minimizing some of the recoil you feel because you're pushing a lot of metal with a small round.

Shooting the 45 is more fatiguing than the 9mm. I can put more rounds down range and on target than you can. That translates to me being able to shoot you more times than you can me.
