How was your summer in USA when you were a kid or a teenager.
I watch all these American movies and tv shows like the Sandlot or Stranger Things and cant help but wonder is it really like that? Do kids and teens really spend their summer time like in the movies?

I lived in a small rural town in southern Illinois so the only things my friends and I ever did was similar to what you'd see in the sandlot I guess.
Get a small team together, split that in half, and then play baseball with like 3-4 people on each team. It was fun, but really fucking hot all the time.
Generally speaking though, most kids these days don't do stuff like that and opt to play video games or play inside unless their parents have a lawn.

If you're willing to visit Illinois and the chicagoland area there is a really great arcade in Brookfield called the Galloping Ghost and it has a lot of classic machines. You can find everything there from Berserk to Resident Evil: Code Veronica there.
$20 to get in, $15 for pinball, and the receipt lasts all day so you can leave and come back whenever you want.

Yeah most kids are absolute ass at any sport but that's the fun of it. I just wish more of my friends were willing to actually fucking play a game or two every weekend instead of just hanging around home.

It depends on what kind of neighbors you have.
In my home neighborhood,
we didn't have a lot of kids.
Most of us spent the majority of time playing video games at home or friends houses.

I remember when I was 7, I went on what felt like a nearly month long holiday to Orlando Florida and briefly to New York City and even though I barely remember a lot about it, there's something about that holiday that evokes such a strong, warm, pleasant feeling. There was this Nickelodeon tv movie called something like the last day of summer or some shit, and something about that show made me think that all summers had to be this stereotypical American summer holiday full of shit to do, and my superb needed to be the stereotypical American suburb with a road full of neighbours my age and a treehouse in my back yard. It's a shame because it evoked and still evoked such a vivid feeling of comfort when in reality it was all just in my head. I don't like to dwell on nostalgia because the only reason anyone is nostalgic is because they associate shit with a simpler time and in reality my life now is pretty good. It's just interesting to me how I, too, had that same comfy vision of the summer in the USA and how I desperately wanted it as a kid.

My summers were okay. I didn't have a lot of kids my age in the neighborhood since most people were geezers or retired, so that wasn't an option for me.

I did have fun going to the pool a couple of times a week though, with the occasional trip to the movies/park/bowling alley/arcade. The highlight was mainly summer camps though, which were usually fun. The best one I went to was a zoo camp where we could hang around with kangaroos (we also had to pick up their shit).
As a teen driving to see my friends spiced summers up, but by that point, I had aged out of the ability to go to summer camps. This meant a lot of boring days playing vidya inside and I ended up working most summers after that.

American Kids just do whatever the fuck they want in the summer. Summer camps, biking, camping, ice cream, playing in the woods, video games, sports, swimming- it goes on and on and on.

As a kid, I'd do swimming lessons, soccer, biking, church camp, go to the county fair, and hang out with friends.
