The rail system was gov't controlled, it became privatised and started to collapse (just research northern rail).
I could go on but I believe amenities & financial stability should be held by the government otherwise one day you wake up in a horrifying dystopia where large companies like Facebook, Google, Twitter etc have more power over the populous than the government they elected.
