So you can gather from that, that he must be being held in the ARU.
I'd say most likely that he'll probably just stay in the ARU forever. It's for mentally ill and suicidal people, but ironically it really has the opposite effect. In there, you're in a cell with bare, plain-white, smooth concrete walls, with no access to sunlight and having nothing to entertain you except your own thoughts.
And I mean you have literally nothing to do, except just be with your thoughts. No TV or books or anything like that. You also have to sleep on a mattress that is quite literally a blue gym mat with a raised part at one end that serves as your pillow.
The blankets are made of a stiff, cotton/polyester canvas so that you can't make them into a noose and hang yourself. The only things you have to look at are the plain-white walls, your blue gym mat, and your silver, aluminium toilet. You also have a camera on you at all times.
I spent 11 days in there when I was in prison in 2015 because I answered yes more than 3 times on the mental health questions they ask you when you first arrive at the prison and process you. I was pretty much just depressed really over what happened with my ex. Jesus christ, 11 days was enough for me though.
But yeah, I'd say they'll probably pull some kind of legal stunt, saying that he's perpetually depressed over what he did, so that they can keep him there.
