We can strive to be giants and succeed further than others before us, but we will be forgotten in the vast expanses of time and space.
Everything that is being done has already been done before and will be done again. Empires rise and fall, people live and die, movements come and go, wealth is amassed and lost, knowledge is imparted and forgotten, people love and hate, the evil conspire and the good suffer, and all returns to dust while the earth and cosmos continue unchanged.
Verily there is nothing new under the sun, deeds count for nothing! They are but fleeting vanity! All will vanish and remain forgotten, to be replaced and the cycle begins anew.
So what is the meaning of life? Are we not out here to be happy? Is the meaning of life not to be happy and help others be happy? Verily the rich man can have the world at his fingertips and be bankrupt in happiness, while the impoverished can have nothing yet be rich in happiness.
So live a good life, fill it with happiness, and help others achieve that happiness.
