So, once a person runs out of things they'd want from life, they need to find something else. Transsexualism is a popular topic currently and possibility of becoming a girl is quite an attractive concept, especially since being a girl nowadays is arguably better. You Americans are additionally obsessed with self-expression (something I wish you weren't, sadly in current times everything you do slowly becomes a reality everywhere else) which adds to the fire.
Although, there are people who genuinely feel like the other sex, you may call it a mental illness if you'd like, it'd probably qualify if not for the political correctness. It was for them that all the methods of changing sex were devised and it's a great thing that we are able to help them, at least somewhat. Just keep that in mind, though most people on chins are prolly not those, the obsession with the sexual part of changing gender is quite indicative of not actually feeling like a girl, most the times at least. No clue how they still don't realise they will not become any moe, at least not in this lifetime.
