I just travelled from Spain to Prague and upon landing a large majority of the passengers began clapping. What the fuck, are the amerifats contagious?

The only reason you associate clapping on landing with americans is because it is an old tradition for transatlantic (and other big water) flights. They don't clap on domestic flights, except for probably Hawaii. It's the dumb europeans who picked up the tradition and bastardized it.
