Actors (not just limited to actors, but they are the foremost examples of this behavior) take roids to get QUICKLY into shape and lose fat. Inside of 6 months, you can transition from a basedboy to that body. Just look at Thor transition, Machinist to Batman Begins and so on.
To truly obtain a bodybuilding physique, one must combine steroids with a lot more work than these actors are willing to put in. But steroids allow them to speed up the process significantly and more importantly, allows them to stay in shape despite bad eating habits and less training.
