A very large portion goes towards running The Bishops Storehouse which gives months of free food to mormon families that are low income in exchange for you spending one day per request working there to help. As well a good portion of tithe goes towards church assistance for members such as my dad who can't afford his rent and is in his 60's. The church supplements about 90% of his income with their own so he can pretty much just work for the church by going on sunday and helping with small coordination tasks.
Tithe is fucked up but it's not just being pocketed. It's all going to something.
Now the money they make from their side hustles is another story. I dare you to drug test a mormon. Fucking dare you.
They also have to sink a lot of money into Deseret Industries which provides cheap clothes to thousands of people from donations. The money made from which goes into operating costs of the store and back into church sponsored programs.
You can say a lot about the mormons but don't say they don't give back. They'll give you food from their house if you say you're hungry. I've done it.
