>>8900356depends how you see it. the visuals, characters, atmosphere and writing are pretty standard anime while the combat is very soulslike. some stuff like level design and item progression are closer to a mix of the two.
overall i'd say all the systems and gameplay are really solid, but i cannot overstate how hilariously bad the writing is. maybe i just have a low tolerance for it because i don't play jrpgs very often but it's just so unbelievably clumsy.
i walked into a new area and got a cut scene of everybody sitting down for a break and having a snack which was all fine and good until one guy started a 3 minute monologue about his past as a soldier and what it really means to be human and the WHOLE game is like that. you're just walking around doing your thing and then you get a huge exposition dump about the sob story of some character that hasn't been developed at all up to this point
