The minimum wage legislation makes it impossible for adults to get low-skill jobs conventionally (though there are some exceptions). Generally speaking you need an education or some sort of inside connections to get a job here. Either that or pursue some sort of entrepreneurial career, anyway. When you do get a job you'll be paid appropriately though, unlike America. You can mooch off the Government to a certain extent here, but nothing comes free. Work for the dole is a thing, you basically get some shitty job you need to work in exchange for your barely livable fee. It used to be super easy to just pretend to look for work over here and get free money indefinitely but they've tightened up on that in recent years, as they should have nobody likes a mooch.
