A 40-50 pound bow will happily take down a deer. Lots of goobers seem to think medieval war bows are the baseline for hunting, and I think it comes from the compound fags quite a bit. With a compound, as long as you can get the string to draw, you could hold it for ages due to the pulley system. Whereas a traditional bow requires continued back and finger strength to hold at draw. If you fuck around and get a heavyweight bow before you're ready, you're gonna have a real hard time learning to shoot, and it'll seriously fuck around with learning technique.
