I spent six months homeless a while back, so yeah. An apartment like that would seem like Buckingham palace when you're sitting under a bridge in the middle of winter trying to figure out how to not freeze to death when night falls.

mine probably isnt cheap by your standards but its cheap for my area. I pay $1250 a month for a 750ft 1 bedroom. it's comfy, in a safe neighborhood, and 5 minutes from my work. Heavy insulation so I can't hear anyone else

I don't see the point of owning a home unless I have kids desu, this is plenty of space for me and my shit, more than i need until i invite people over. The bigger my place is the more my woman and I have to clean. I'm lazy

Woof. I guess as long as it's comfy and safe, but my mortgage is only $1175 on my fixer-upper (~2300ft^2) +20 acres (plus other bills but you get the picture). Glad I abandoned the city.

I've rented a room in crappy houses before. I've also had pretty good luck in finding crappy houses that arent actually as bad as they look. My roommate situation has also left my friends pretty jealous, considering the shit they've put up with.

NO it's an absolute WASTE of $$. You have nothing to show for it and just make your landlord ie overlord rich while after a short number of years you add it up and think how that gone pile-o-cash would've been a downpayment on your own modest house & property. PLUS the fact that since you don't OWN the rental - you don't have as many personal rights as you would at your own place. Police & landlords & staff can make entry & search if they think you're "breaking some law" etc and can walk right in under the guise of a alleged "maintenance" issue or some other bs.
