It was the first iron furnace to successfully use coal-based fuel instead of wood-based fuel for its fires. The usage of coal-powered fire (Fire 2.0, if you will) burns hotter and more efficiently, and it allowed for iron products to be made cheaper and in larger quantities, which led to more machines being made to power factories, to pump water out of mines, and so forth.
It's a very important, yet largely unknown historical spot.
