The story is
>an italian company emerged into making american western style single action black powder revolvers
>the frames of said revolved were made of so soft steel that in no time the backs of the cartridges literally forged a cavity on a backside of the frame
>the rears of the cartridges ruptured during shooting
>the company solution was to machine a cavity at the rear part of the frame (still the same soft frame material)
>then insert a washer of hardened steel in the cavity
>the idea was that this washer (having a hole in the middle for hammer striker) would provide a sufficiently resilient and safe anvil surface against the cartridge while shooting
>it didn't
>after a while, the washer came off
>the washer was literally accidentally lost during reloads
>now, instead of a washer with a small hole just enough to accommodate a hammer with a striker pin
>you have a huge hole on the rear of your revolver frame
>your cartridge primer will fit through it
>your cartridge primer will FLY through it
>in your face
However, before the primer cup (and the gas pressure following it) will reach your face, it will have quite enough impact to re-cock the hammer of your single action revolver, while you are still pulling the trigger.
Do you understand?
Your single action Western style black powder revolver has suddenly turned into a direct impingement gas operated machine gun.
True story.
Generally, Italia is a craftsman country. Gun manufacturing is no exception.

I guess there are bad apples everywhere.
