Of course porn has played a role in the promulgation of perversity and promiscuity of both males and females.
Then there was (and is) birth control. Sexual intercourse used to have greater consequences (i.e. pregnancy) and I don't mainly mean STDs although they have certainly become a modern consequence.
Lastly, abortion. If your birth control fails after you have made the rounds with your hometown football team, you can always murder your unborn child and wipe the slate clean. Abortion is your last line of defense.
Tl;dr: nearly all physical, social, and monetary consequences and barriers have been eliminated. The psychological consequences for whoredom will never go away.
