respect is not something you get and hold onto for the rest of the time, it's just a temporary circumstantial transaction between two humans
it's basically a conveying of emotions that temporarily boosts the mood of one person thereby allowing that better mood to give that person the motivation to keep doing productive work
but it's not something that lasts forever, it's an emotional state, so you can't start with nothing and build or deplete, it's just there for a short time and then dissipates on its own
and once you realize that it's basically nothing more than an artificial way to bump your mood you can trivialize it
it's a commodity, like drugs, for temporary personal enhancement, so as long as you're doing fine on your own you don't even need any of it
so in a way you can actually pull the argument further and say receiving respect is almost worthless, the only thing that matters is giving respect
because the respect you receive either gets converted into something else or you take it to your grave when you die and then it no longer matters
