Self betterment is the road towards loving existence. Loving existence is to love God. There is a part of God within you (soul, free will, capability of creation etc.). Thus loving existance and God will lead to loving yourself.
Become better. That is the cure to your pain. Start small. Find a single small thing you dislike about yourself and aim to improve it. Then move onto something better.
