But 1947 in Roswell is where first contact occurred. I think the military was simply expecting another Nazi-related spacecraft and got extraterrestrials instead. From there on out, the top levels of the government have been preparing humanity for disclosure, doing whatever's necessary to keep humanity from finding out what's going on before it's prepared. It's why Kennedy was assassinated (he was going to blow the lid off too soon.) There's been a massive shadow war for the control of humanity's future since the end of WW2 and it appears to be finally coming to an end. The lines between 'good' and 'bad' get pretty blurry the further you go.
