>>9173017In the middle ages with the inquisition thing, when they were judging someone that sinned, the sinner weared that conus-shaped thing in their heads (but with the face shown) to show repent. Some time ahead when the people made processions the people who participated weared this to also show repent of their sins. This tradition lasted since today and there are big big processions in the south that last for weeks and who participate can be doing processions for half a day. Also the carriages are carried by hand, there are no wheels and they can wheigh 1000s of kilos and they have to be very carefull and slow, that's why they last so long. Appart of this, in this processions also participate bands of folk music, militarymen and also politicians.
Nowaday fairly in all the big cities of the south all the people participate in the processions even if they are not believers because is a strong cultural thing. I've been in a procession bc my family is catholic and i dont find it strange. Hope you can know a little more about Spain now.
