Jesus invented the word Satan for his parables, and some of his disciples decide to call him Baal, or Beelzebub, because that's the philistine's god and philistines are evil, or whatever. He's always used as a metaphor in Jesus' stories, or mentioned third hand by his disciples as a tempter of Jesus.
The Old Testament Devil, Lucifer, is actually just the King James version deciding on their own name for the God of Venus. The Sumerians called him Inanna. The Greeks/Rooms called him Venus, in their respective languages.
