The anti-marriage parody of otherkin online furries is the basis for Rick and Morty Season 4 Episode 4 from surface-level observation that I found just watching the episode the first time around -I was surprised there wasn't any news or reviews talking about this. I don't think most audience members really understand that the episode only makes sense if you have observed in some capacity a furry/lewd community on the Internet. Dragonsonas? People roleplaying as dragons? Mentions of weirdo trans-looking dragonsonas into scatplay? Come on it was obvious. This is less a 'theory' and more a 'this is the message if any of you missed it.' The reason most people didn't like the episode is the overwhelming majority of people have never seen these communities and thus are not going to get this at face value. Come on the dragonsona had a magic staff with a dildo on it, the whole episode read like a fanfic by someone into beastiality/furries where the day is saved via a magic-based orgy. Anyone who says 'you're just thinking too much' are dead wrong on this one -they're not thinking enough. And obviously, the contract was a marital contract -that part was perhaps the most explicit parody of all. The episode frankly seemed to justify cheating due to the fact you're kind of forced into a marital contract you don't really want or like and that part I didn't even think was partially hidden -that seemed fundamental to the episode's parody of real-life romance. Meanwhile the online world's contrast of polyamorous orgies/weird sexual shit was made fun of in what should have been a really controversial manner but very few viewers seem to have understood that which is a shame.
